1. Tell us what you love about the V&A Waterfront in no more than 350 words. It can be anything – from eating ice-cream in your favourite spot to taking boat rides around the harbour to eating at your favourite restaurant.
  2. Take a photograph of your favourite activity or place.
  3. Submit your story and photograph online or, when you next visit the V&A Waterfront, write your story on one of the competition postcards and drop it into a competition box at the V&A Waterfront Information Centre or Kiosk.
  4. The deadline for submitting stories is 05 November 2010.
  5. Stories will be judged on originality, insight and relevance.
  6. If you don't want to submit a story, you can vote for your favourite story and stand a chance to win R2000 in V&A Waterfront vouchers.
  7. At the end of the competition period (after 05 November 2010) a panel of judges will decide the winner amongst the finalists.
  8. The winners will be personally notified by 19 November 2010 as well as posted on the website.
  9. Winners will select their choice of prizes amongst those listed on this website and advertised on posters at the V&A Waterfront.

Terms & Conditions


  1. This competition is only open to SA citizens.
  2. All entrants under the age of 18 need their parent’s written consent to enter.
  3. By entering the competition, all entrants agree to be bound by the rules.
  4. No employees, their direct family members, tenants or their staff, or the advertising and promotional agencies, of the V&A Waterfront, or its subsidiaries may enter.
  5. Duration of competition:
    1. This competition opens on 6 September 2010 and ends on 5 November 2010. It is divided into 3 cycles, as follows:
      • Cycle 1 - 6 September 2010 to 24 September 2010
      • Cycle 2 - 24 September 2010 to 15 October 2010
      • Cycle 3 - 15 October 2010 to 5 November 2010
    2. Entries for cycle 1 and 2 closes at 12:00pm on the last day of each cycle. Any entries submitted after 12:00pm will be entered into the next cycle. Entries for the 3rd cycle close at 17:00 on 5 November 2010. No late entries will be accepted.
    3. Each cycle commences fresh and no entries from previous cycles will be carried over.
  6. Only one entry per person is permissible for the total duration of the competition.
  7. All entries must be the entrant’s original work. Any entries that are incomplete will be discarded. All online submissions need to be accompanied by a photograph taken of or at your favourite place at the V&A Waterfront.
  8. All entries will be reviewed before submission to the voting and judging stage of the competition. The V&A Waterfront reserves the right to exclude any submissions which, in its sole discretion, it deems to be offensive, discriminatory, amounts to hate speech or which is not in keeping with the V&A Waterfront’s character. All successful entries will be posted online together with the entrant’s name and surname.
  9. All personal information (ie. the entrant’s contact details) provided to the V&A Waterfront via the entry form will be kept confidential and all entrants consent to all their information being contained on the V&A Waterfront’s database and used for future marketing purposes.
  10. Notwithstanding the above, all entrants and winners grant permission for use of his/her name, photographs and accompanying story submitted to it in any advertising and promotional material, or digital media for this competition and any other future promotions without claim to any compensation whatsoever.
  11. There will be 1 (one) winner chosen for each cycle. Winners will be personally notified and posted on (www.my.waterfront.co.za). The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Winners outside Cape Town must be present in Cape Town to claim and use their prizes. Travelling and accommodation cost in this regard is the responsibility of the winner and the V&A Waterfront will not under any circumstances compensate you for these expenses.
  12. Prize(s):
    1. There is a pool of 8 (eight) different possible prizes. The V&A Waterfront may in its sole discretion, and at any time during this competition change the prizes.
    2. Each winner may choose any 3 prizes from the prize pool. The winner’s selection is final and may not at any later stage be changed for a different prize.
    3. Winners must present themselves personally at the V&A Waterfront Head Office within 2 (two) weeks of being notified that they have won, to claim their prizes. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the prizes.
    4. All prizes must be redeemed before 31 January 2011 and is subject to the sponsor’s availability. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the prizes.
    5. Where necessary the winners agree to sign the necessary indemnities before accepting prizes.
    6. The prizes are not transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.
  13. The V&A Waterfront reserves the right to terminate, temporarily suspend, or alter any aspect of this competition including but not limited the rules, at any time and for any reason whatsoever.
  14. All entrants hereby agree that neither the V&A, its employees, advertising agency nor sponsors shall be responsible or liable for any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, actions howsoever caused in connection with or resulting from participation in the competition or acceptance of the prize(s).
